Week 6 - (April 1)
The Champions of Mirrodin have struck deep into the core, sealing off many gates that the Phyrexians opened for their dark, unknown schemes. Behind the Champions loom Colossal guardians, now spawned in duplicate, ensuring the gates will remain closed as long as they are on watch. While these Champions believe they have sealed all the gateways the Phyrexians opened with their evil incantations, including the one leading back into their own hellish realm, they sadly are mistaken. One was not closed, and is soon becoming apparent. The Mastermind behind this vile pool of deception, controlling the Phyrexian invasion in such a subtle manner even the Phyrexians do not realize he is in control has begun to send forth his personal minions. And this is just as the Praetors have schemed for under the direction of their brilliant collaborator. The Champions hold close to their doom deep within the core while the demonic generals crash forth upon Mirrodin proper. All that stands in their way are two fortresses, one close to the base of the Oxida Ridge, and another across a stream of quicksilver they can follow all the way to the open fields of razorgrass and tangle of trees beyond. These strongholds are now to be assembled into the ranks of ichor and death.
Week 6 brings about the second MAJOR BATTLE of the Mirrodin War League!
This week, both Phyrexian Praetors - Nathaniax Garciax and Randus Clarkgoth - will play an Archenemy game against 3 Mirran opponents. Their will be 2 different Archenemy decks made and given to the Praetors as soon as they arrive to the event. They may look through them and adjust their decks however they choose at that time.
The Mirran players will not know what cards will be in those decks until they play the game.
The Phyrexian Praetors must choose 6 of the Mirran players present other than the two Mirran Champions to launch their Siege against, divided into 2 groups. The Phrexian Praetors must choose which of them is assaulting the Stronghold near the Oxida Ridge and which is assaulting the outpost along the quicksilver stream.
Both the Mirran Champions and the Phryexian players participating in the Archenemy games may not play any League (not tiebreaker) games this week. I encourage you to start this game as early as possible.
The Archenemy games will use all the normal rules for an Archenemy game with these exceptions: To poison an Archenemy it takes 20 poison counters. To represent they are held up in a fortress under siege, the Mirran players do not get a free mulligan in this game and must play with exactly 40 cards in their deck. They do however begin the game with 24 life each and ignore the first 2 poison counters they each would receive. However, any Mirran card a Mirran player would put into a graveyard is instead Exiled. In addition if that card would be put into a graveyard because of damage dealt to it or an effect by a Phryexian card, it is instead Exiled into the Phyrexian Praetors' Command Zone. It may be played from the Praetor's Command Zone whenever it could normally be played at an additional cost of 2 for each time it has already been played this game. Whenever it would be put into the graveyard, it is instead Exiled to the Phyrexian Preator's Command Zone. Whenever any Phyrexian card would be put into a Mirran player's graveyard it is instead Exiled into the Phyrexian Praetors' Command Zone. It may be played from the Praetor's Command Zone whenever it could normally be played at a cost of 2 for each time it has already been played this game. Whenever it would be put into the graveyard, it is instead Exiled to the Phyrexian Preator's Command Zone. The Praetor may Exile any card from his Command Zone at any time and remove a poison counter from himself.
All the Mirran Players participating in an Archenemy game automatically earn 4 points in the league. For every one of their teammates in the same game that die before them, they earn an additional 2 points. In addition, if the team defeats the Phyrexian Praetor they all earn 2 points and Mirrans wins 6 War Badges.
The Phyrexian Player participating in the Archenemy game automatically earns 3 points in the league. For each opponent he defeats, he earns an additional 3 points, and Phyrexia earns 3 War Badges.
If the Stronghold at Oxida falls, it could have SERIOUS repercussions for all Mirran forces. The outpost along the quicksilver stream is VITAL to keeping the Phryexian legion from quickly infecting the plains and forests beyond and would mean the infection from those lands could not be held at bay for long.
The winning side for each Archenemy game also earns their side the opportunity to purchase an additional Booster Pack this week at the end of the event!
All other payers may Skirmish as normal. The first game you play this week earns you 5 War Badges if you win against either an opposing faction player or a player you have not played a League game against yet.
In addition, each player who provided Patrick with a LEGIBLE decklist of their current league deck as of the beginning of Week 6, prior to the draft beginning will earn their faction 4 War Badges. If you have more than 1 deck built you only have to provide Patrick with 1 deck list.
The siege is upon these strongholds, and the Praetors are descending...but the real conflict is about to come out of the shadows and Mirrodin will never be the same.
As the War wages, momentum barely favors the invading forces of darkness. While they would mold this realm into a New Phyrexia, they are far from claiming it. Still it would appear they have the upper hand ever so slightly.
One time this week, the Phyrexian player may do the following:
Instead of drawing a card, choose land or nonland. Then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a card of the chosen type. Put it into your hand and shuffle the rest back into your library.
Perhaps the momentum of war will shift more, but for now...the battle rages and it is unclear who is winning.
