How good is this card really? In constructed? It seems pretty unfair if it ever actually gets equipped to a creature. Does the "3 to cast, 3 to equip" part make this card not viable in standard?

I think it will all depend on how good the unseen Sword of Blank and Blank is.
From a Limited standpoint...that card can single handily win you the match.

OK - I am officially tired of playin vs this card in limited! I literally got beat by a very poor player who just cast this and won. He even equipped to some random bear instead of Oversteel Seer and attacking with Vigilance, tap, pump.
Sad times.

yes the card is stupid in limited if you cant deal with it. and yes losing to a player like that sucks

3 to cast 3 to equip never stopped behemoth sledge, I think it might see some play here and there.

i understand sword give first strike and trample and vig. but sledge gave plus 2 toughness and lifelink. so i would rather have sledge on a 1/1 then sword. but the sword will see play after scars of mirrodin so i suggest who ever doesnt have stoneforge mystic go pick some up

I agree with Ben. Behemoth Sledge is much better than the sword. But it didn't see much maindeck play even still. Its a great sideboard card against Jund and RDW, and totally worth the 1-2 slots. Its the lifelink and +2/+2 that made the Sledge awesome. I'm going to miss playing with that card What have we learned? You late pick artifact hate to side in.

Sadly, I keep getting wrecked by it in Sealed where I am having to invent answers to it when I don't have a card that reads, "Destroy target Sword of Make Limited Not Fun". Best instance so far was when I had an opponent who resolved Hoarding Dragon for Sword 3 games. Twice I was able to Aether Adept the Dragon. Sadly though, both times that meant he got to get Triskelion as well?! But I guess that is better than having to deal with the Sword?

Clearly the Sword dominates in Limited. In Constucted however, I don't really see it getting alot of play. 3 to cast and 3 to equip is too much to commit early in the game. It doesn't protect your creature from removal opening you up to a big loss of tempo. What you really have to ask yourself is how does this card help me win? In an aggro deck, you don't want to spend two turns (especially turns 3 and 4) playing and equiping. Even if you do equip your creature and your opponent doesn't destroy it, you are only getting 2 more damage across each turn. All it really serves to do is keep your opponent from attacking into your +2/+0ed first striker. This doesn't win you the game.
