0 mox opal legendary artifact metalcraft- tap add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool only use this ability if you control 3 or more artifacts.
so i see draft with this and memnite early to use it on turn 1 or 2.

very true. smart for em to make it legendary. prevents a restricted placement for it automatically. Turn one, drop 3 Mox Opals, pay three for Phylactery Lich. That's the kind of stuff you don't want to see happening.

I absolutely don't agree with this card beibg mythic, legendary or not. It is by far the weakest mox ever printed and yet it will be worth more than chrome mox was when it was released. I've never complained about mythics before, but I think tthis one crosses a line for me. This is proof that wizards have put more of an emphasis on the market value of magic and that is aggravating. Think about it, this card isn't viable until turn 3 or so. Even if you could make it active turn 2, you still have no use for it. And the fact that it's legendary means you won't run more than 3 in a deck because drawing 2 would mean you have a dead card. I really just don't see this card being played, unless folks play it to up the metalcraft count. Opal mox is a disappointment all around. Sol ring would have been better!

well, i have to kinda agree with it being mythic at the moment. 1 flavorwise, like ben already said. and, second, it's an artifact set. and since we've only seen 23 cards from the set so far, we have no way to tell if this Mox will be utterly broken, or if it's just decent (which is what it appears as now). i'm guess i'm saying just wait for the rest of the set to be revealed before we decide.

first off sure in standard sure mox opal may not be played. but this card is as good as the other. if you play this card in legacy its retarded you have to remember not all cards are made for standard. some do get print for older ones. and yes this card will be played in type 2 and i promise you it will be worth the price if you dont like it i will gladly take your mox's from you.

I couldn't really make my argument clear on my phone. I forgot to mention a few things: Ben is right. I think the one place where this card is really good is Vintage/Legacy. But the problem with it is that it is legendary. That may even put a damper on its playability in the format. It may just be a one-of in that case. My sole argument is that this card is not mythic. Nothing about it feels mythic. This card is printed mythic simply out of value. Put yourself in Wizards place. Moxen have always been the most powerful cards in Magic (as well as the most expensive). Since the printing of your last Mox (Chrome Mox) you have introduced the "Mythic Rare". Mythic Rares not only allow you to print some cards that would normally be ridiculously over powered (from a Limited and Type II stand-point) but also drives down the prices of cards that would normally be "pricey". [An instance on the former is the new fetch lands which can be bought as low as $8 whereas the old fetch lands are still to this day around $15]. So your wizards and you have developed a new Mox. If you print it as a 'normal' rare, its going to be less than $10. If you print it as a mythic rare it will start around $30 (guesstimate on my part) and also drive up the value on Scars as a whole. What do you do? You go with what's going to make you money. Which is exactly what's going on here. Oh, but wait a minute, we said we wouldn't print utility cards as mythics. How do we fix that? Make it legendary?! Of course a Mox has to be Mythic! They are some of the best cards in Magic! This card is not only not a mythic, but its just not a Mox. It's just not that good... even in Legacy/Vintage. It's going to get some hype, and its going to start out at $30-$40, but it will not be the most sought after card in the set by a long shot: by Type II, Extended, or Legacy players. The card is just like the Alara Obelisks. Birds is even better than this card. Its 100% not a mythic rare. That's all I want to argue. It shouldn't be mythic.

yes but if you make a card legendary which this card is. and derserves to be. it has to be mythic if its a legend. let me put it to you like this. you play chrome mox you remove a card from your hand it produces that color mana. you play mox diamond you sac it unless you discard a land card sure those are both better out of the gate then opal but you lose cards to do so. you dont lose any card for opal the ony restrictions is that you need 3 artifacts which isnt hard to do you have needle, you have chalice and who knows what in scars. and its legendary i dont like it being legendary but i dont mind it. but its worth it since you dont lose any cards to play it.

Boo! Boo! Bow down to the Queen of Refuge!
We all knew it would be Mythic, but it doesn't make their lies to not make utility cards Mythic smell any less like the trash of a promise it was. At least it seems mythic flavorwise, unlike...oh I don't know...Venegvine? Of course, they could have just named it MoxEmeraldvine, and then flavorwise we would have all been okay with it?!?!
Don't let them take you for a fool just because they name something smoothly and build the flavor of it "correctly". Mox Opal is Mythic so that WotC sells more cards. Mox Opal was MADE so that Scars of Mirrodin sells more cards. Is it insanely broken? I don't know, and further more right now, I could care less! Is it insulting that they continue to make Mythic Rares that will be worth $30 out of the pack? I think it is. They can argue that it will help ensure the longevity and popularity of the game, but I can argue that I will ALWAYS hate Mythic Rares along the lines of how they decide what is Mythic and what is not. I think it is safe to agree that I am one of their most loyal customers and have done my fair share to introduce new players into the game. I think Mythic Rares are bad for the game when they continue to screw up what is Mythic and what is not.
I mean...how can you make Venegvine Mythic, and yet Akroma's Freaking Sword is Rare? Um...please explain that to me!? ! WotC - U R doing it wrong!

So, to clarify, you think Mox Opal is great, and you'd like to make the Wizards crew kings of the universe?

So, to clarify, you think Mox Opal is great, and you'd like to make the Wizards crew kings of the universe? Can we change your Avatar to be a person kicking a dead horse or perhaps someone twisting a thorn deeper into someone's side....ooooooh...what about a Troll pushing some buttons? Mox Opal is by far the worst Mythic selection based on what we as players were promised would be and what would not be Mythic. Vengevine is the worst based on flavor. The easiest ones to swallow to date are all the Planeswalkers. I have learned to appreciate Mythic Rares being in Magic, though I would not be sad if they ever vanished. I just think WotC keeps missing on several cards each set. Mox Opal is a miss because we were promised utility cards would not be printed at Mythic rarity. With an artifact block upon us, a mana producing artifact with metalcraft is going to be utility, much as the signets were utility in Ravnica block, or the tri-color lands in Alara block. This card could have been rare, and it still would have generated excitement within the set. Just because it is legendary and a Mox did not mean it had to be mythic. I would be surprised once we see the set in its entirety that we all can not find a replacement card that should have been mythic in its stead. Help us all should WotC ever create a ridiculously powerful Mythic non-legendary land. Obtaining a playset of those will either require you to be very lucky in cracking packs, or selling a body part for the average player.
